Why should you write in a journal?
Why do I use writing as a tool in mastering the challenges of life in personal development?
The answer is simple: The writing process will slow you down meaningfully. As you begin to write down your thoughts and feelings, you become aware of them. You create an awareness of your world.
Writing needs a minimum of structure but will bring order to your thoughts and feelings. The simple act of writing will put a stop to the thoughts whirling around in your mind and confusing you.
Start to write regularly, on a daily basis. Sit down every day and write down your thoughts and feelings – this does not take hours. Even devoting just a few minutes to this practice will help produce positive change. Take your time and be calm.
It is best to reserve a specific time of day for your writing. If you are a morning grouch, then write in the evening. If you are an early riser, you might write during your first cup of coffee or tea. The whole process should be painless, effortless.
I write in the morning and in the evening because I like to deposit thoughts at the first of the day, and encapsulate my thoughts and experiences from the day at the end of the day.
Writing is a source in which your thoughts and feelings are allowed to bubble up.
Would you like to increase the positive effects of this process even more? Even increase your creativity?
Then, write with your non-dominant hand for a certain period of time every day! This writing process slows you down even more, and different areas of our brain are used and, as a side effect we experiencing more creativity.
I can’t write well!
Of course you can write. There’s no need to become Shakespeare or Goethe. What you write does not have to be “beautiful”. It will never be evaluated! We don’t care about the form, spelling or grammar.
Your journal is just for you. Only you and nobody else will read it. Your journal is your private space.
I have no idea what to write!
Allow any spontaneous thoughts or feelings.
The first time you do this, it will be a bit awkward or unfamiliar. You are not aware of every thought. But now you will allow your spontaneous inner images and feelings to surface for a short moment during your day.
The longer and more often you write, the easier it will get. You will be amazed what all bubbles up from your source. You can communicate to yourself and get rid of stressful thoughts.
I write so slowly!
There is no harm in that. You have all the time in the world.
I have no time!
You have decided to do something for yourself and you want to change. Take care of yourself and take the needed time for yourself. You are worth it.
